Can I leave it up year round?
Absolutely. Bijou Build materials are designed for year-round play through all four seasons. With breathable panels that repel water and are UV resistant, Bijou Build materials have been tested against the elements.
What ages is Bijou Build designed for?
There is something for everyone, ages 3-103!
What is it made out of?
Our Mainstay Panels, Sway Swings, Platforms and Sky Hover Swing are made out of a woven teslin material that is 50% recycled water bottles. It is breathable, water resistant and UV protected.
The anchor feet are made of recycled water bottles. Our rings are made super durable ABS and our straps are made of UV protected polyester.
What is the weight limit?
250 pounds per accessory. This means 250 pounds can be on the Hover Platform, while another 250 pounds is on the rope bridge etc.
Does it have to be staked down?
The Mainstay does require stakes, as do our Swing Arm, Duo Rambler and Big Bijou setups.
The Bijou Build Nest and Haven do not require stakes, but will need to be staked down when adding on weight bearing accessories such as the Swing Arm or Rope Bridge.
Can I install this on turf or concrete?
It is possible to stake your Bijou Build products down on artificial turf, depending on what is below the turf. Many turf installations utilize sand or materials that are able to be staked through, meaning the biggest concern is cosmetic. If this is the case, the small U stakes that the Mainstay and Sway utilize don't seem to pose much of an issue.
Please keep in mind that the Duo Rambler setup requires larger, screw-in auger stakes that may pose a larger issue for turf. If you choose to install this, we have consulted with a landscaping company who suggested to cut a small flap in the turf, lift it, and screw in the stake. Then if you choose to remove it or move your setup, you can fill the hole (with sand or whatever material is below) and re-secure the flap with turf nails.
We also offer the Nest and Haven that do not require stakes at all. These setups do not have play panels (like the climbing panel) so they do not need to be weight bearing on the sides. They are compatible with a single/center point attachment swing (like our Hover Swing).
The Mainstay cannot be installed on concrete, neither can our Swing Arm, Duo Rambler, or Big Bijou setups, as these all must be staked down to be safely and securely installed.
The Bijou Build Nest and Haven can be installed without using stakes. These setups do not have play panels (like the climbing panel) so they do not need to be weight bearing on the sides. They are compatible with a single/center point attachment swing (like our Hover Swing).
However, per ASTM US safety standards, any swinging and climbing play should not be done on concrete or a hard surface as there is a risk of injury in a fall.
Does it come with wood?
That is up to you! You have the option to select “with wood” or “without wood” on the product page.
If you choose “with wood”, we simply place a delivery order for you from your local Lowes, Home Depot, or lumber yard. The wood does not ship from our warehouse directly, so it will not arrive with your order, it will have its own delivery date.
If you choose “without wood”, you will need to source your own wood. You can find the necessary wood for each kit here.
Are these safety tested?
Yes, Bijou Build meets or exceeds all US safety standards for Children's products and outdoor play equipment, including ASTM F963, F1148, EN71-1, and EN71-8. Bijou Build has been tested to the highest standards for use and abuse, torque and tension, weathering, and UV testing.
How difficult is it to set up?
We like to think it is simpler and less time consuming than a traditional playset! Your Bijou Build will come with instructions, and you can find assembly videos here.
